Seekor burung serak jawa yang juga dikenal dengan nama burung hantu putih (Tyto alba) berhasil diselamatkan oleh otoritas margasatwa (BBKSDA Sumut) bersama tim dari Yayasan Scorpion (Scorpion Wildlife Trade Monitoring Group) dari rumah seorang warga yang bernama Agus Salim, di desa Bukit MAS, Kecamatan Besitang, Kabupaten Langkat. Desa Bukit Mas merupakan daerah yang berdekatan dengan kawasan Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser, Sumatra.

Setelah dievakuasi dari desa Bukit Mas, tim membawa burung hantu tersebut ke Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa di Sibolangit untuk diperiksa kondisi kesehatannya, agar burung burung hantu tersebut memiliki kesempatan untuk dilepasliarkan kembali ke alam liar.

Burung hantu tersebut ditangkap oleh kumpulan anak-anak dari pohon manggis. Kemudian menjadi bahan tontonan yang menarik perhatian banyak masyarakat lokal. Oleh sebab itu, pihak otoritas margasatwa mengevakuasi hewan malang tersebut untuk menghindari satwa tersebut menjadi hewan peliharaan yang diekspoitasi. (12/09/2020)
