Scorpion Foundation requested that Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar helps saving an orangutan (named Boy) in Kasang Kulim zoo near Pekanbaru,
Riau province in Sumatra. In the request submitted via email today, Scorpion asked the Minister to instruct relevant officers to translocate Boy from Kasang
Kulim to Animal Rescue Center.
Scorpion also offered to help finding a suitable Animal Rescue Center for
this orangutan.
The Scorpion is encouraging the Ministry to give a chance for Boy to
live in the wild because this animal is taken from a military member.
Giving Boy the second chance to live in the wild is a wise thing to do
and it will support government policy of the Strategy and Action Plan for
Conservation of Indonesian orangutans.
Previously, Scorpion has several times monitored Kasang Kulim Wildlife Park and found poor handling of animals in this park. Visitors can make direct contacts with orangutans and can freely give unsuitable food and drinks to the orangutans. Therefore, the Scorpion is very concerned with the condition of Boy, and three other orangutans in this park.
