Hand Over of Moluccan Parrot and Hawk Eagle in Batang Toru (September 22, 2020)

BBKSDA SUMUT bersama Yayasan SCORPION berhasil mengamankan dua ekor burung dilindungi di Aek Pining, Ekosistem Batang Toru, Sumatera. Kedua Burung tersebut yaitu satu ekor burung Nuri Maluku / ‘Red Lory’ (Eos bornea) dan seekor burung Elang Brontok / ‘Changeable Hawk-eagle’ (Nisaetus cirrhatus).

Menurut keterangan bu HW, si pemilik burung, burung elang tersebut ditemukannya di lokasi sekitar perkebunan di Batang Toru dalam keadaan sayap terluka, sehingga beliau berinisiatif untuk merawatnya. Sedangkan burung nuri maluku, ia didapatkannya dari temannya sejak 4 bulan yang lalu.

Pemilik burung mengaku tidak tahu bahwa kedua burung tersebut dilindungi undang-undang di Indonesia. Setelah diberikan imbauan dan penjelasan oleh petugas satwa liar, akhirnya pemilik burung tersebut bersedia dengan sukarela menyerahkan kedua burung tersebut.

Usai penyerahan, tim membawa kedua burung yang dilindungi tersebut ke Pusat Transit Satwa di Sipirok untuk pemeriksaan kesehatan. Sesuai dengan keterangan Kepala SKW V Sipirok (BBKSDA SU), elang tersebut akan dilepasliarkan ke Hutan Batang Toru sedangkan burung nuri maluku akan dibawa ke Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa di Sibolangit

The Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA SU) and the SCORPION Foundation have succeeded in securing two protected birds in Aek Pining, Batang Toru Ecosystem, Sumatra. The two birds are a Maluku parrot / "Red Lory" (Eos bornea) and a "Changeable Hawk-eagle" (Nisaetus cirrhatus).

According to Mrs. HW, the birds owner, she found the eagle in a location around the plantation in Batang Toru with injured wings, so she took the initiative to care for it. While the Maluku parrot, she got it from her friend since 4 months ago.

The bird owner admitted that she did not know that the two birds were protected by law in Indonesia. After being given an appeal and explanation by the wildlife officer, finally the owner of the birds was willing to voluntarily hand over the two birds.

After the handover, the team took the two protected birds to the Widllife Transit Center in Sipirok for a health check. In accordance with the statement of the Head of SKW V Sipirok (BBKSDA SU), the eagle will be released to the Batang Toru Forest while the parrot will be brought to the Wildlfie Rescue Center in Sibolangit.
