Approximately 2,300 wild animals were on sale in Jatinegara
wildlife market in Jakarta. They were consisted of approximately 2,000 birds,
and approximately 300 other animals such as long-tailed macaques, civets,
turtles, and snakes. These animals entered Jakarta without transport permit
(SATS-DN) from Wildlife Authority (BKSDA).
When visiting Jatinegara wildlife market on Thursday (29/09) Scorpion Investigator asked some traders if they had transport permit of the animals they were selling. It turned out that they did not have the transport document. So, these animals entered Jakarta illegally. Scorpion Foundation sent a letter to the Head of BKSDA Jakarta on Friday asking to stop the illegal wildlife trade in Jatinegarra Jakarta.
