The Wildlife Authority in North Sumatra (BBKSDA-SU) Returns Four Rare Wildlife Back in the Wild (June 14, 2021)

In celebrating National Nature Conservation Day 2021 and efforts to conserve wildlife, the Wildlife Authority in North Sumatra province  (BBKSDA-SU) released 4 protected animals back in the wild in Siranggas Wildlife Reserve, Pakpak Barat regency, North Sumatra on Monday afternoon (14/6).

 

The four animals included two binturongs, one slow loris, and one Leopard cat. One unprotected snake, python, was also released together with the other 4 protected animals.

 

The BBKSDA-SU carried out the release in collaboration with the Scorpion Foundation and the Indonesian Species Conservation Program (ISCP).

 

One of the two Binturongs (Arctictis binturong) was handed over to the BBKSDA-SU on August 24, 2019 while the other was related to a law enforcement process in October 2020.

 

The Leopard cat (Felis bengalensis) and the slow loris (Nyebus coucang) were handed over to the BBKSDA-SU. The slow loris was entrusted to the ISCP while the python (Phyton reticulatus) was discovered near the Sibolangit Wildlife Rescue Center in June 2021.
