The Scorpion Foundation insisted the Ministry of Environment
and Forestry to immediately release 1.300 confiscated birds in Batam to avoid
mass death of the birds. Scorpion insistence was submitted via email to the
Head of Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA) in Riau and to the Director of Biodiversity
Conservation at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Mr. Bambang Dahono
Adji.
In addition to the email, Director of Scorpion Foundation
Gunung Gea also called Bambang Dahono Adji today insisting immediate release of
the birds.
"I will check about the situation of these
birds with relevant officers in Riau. I know it is better to release the birds
as soon as possible but we need to also check technical aspect of the release,”

The water police confiscated 1,372 birds in Batam
on Tuesday night (22 Nov). These undocumented birds were smuggled from Malaysia
to Batam using speed boat. After arriving in Batam the birds were moved into a
car.
The birds were placed inside 88 boxes consisting of 1,371 birds, however, at the raid approximately 100 birds already
died.
All the birds, which are from magpie family, have
been deposited at the Batam Animal Quarantine while further investigation of
the case is still ongoing. When the police raiding the birds and secured evidents the suspect managed to escape. (Tribrata News)
