Over 2,000 illegal birds were on sale in Batam,
Kepulauan Riau province of Indonesia on Monday (21/11/2016). The sales were not in wildlife market but in 9
separate bird shops. Scorpion Foundation monitored the birds on sale in nine
stores in the city and found each shop selling about 250 birds. So, all the birds
were more than 2,000 individuals.
Scorpion Foundation has reported this illegal wild birds to BKSDA Riau in Pekanbaru today (Tuesday, 22/11/2016) requesting
that BBKSDA stops the illegal trade of illegal wild birds in this city.
Based on information obtained by Scorpion yesterday
(Monday, 21/11/2016) the birds were brought in to Batam from Mentawai island in
West Sumatra province. When asked whether the birds were covered with transport permit (SATS-DN) from BBKSDA offices, some traders questioned
admit to not have the SATS-DN.
Scorpion Foundation has written to BBKSDA Riau in Pekanbaru requesting to curb and stop circulation of illegal birds in Batam.
