In early August this year, Indonesian Species
Conservation Program (ISCP) received reports from the local community in
Patumbak, Deli Serdang regency, about someone who worked as slow loris hunter
and trader. The ISCP investigated the trader and the location of the slow loris
and was able to identify the location in Tiga Juhar Village (Patumbak), Deli
Serdang regency of North Sumatra province.
The ISCP asked OIC to help investigating the
case further. In early September 2016 the OIC team posed as buyers and finally
able to unveil the case. On Sunday night (17/09/2016) the Law Enforcement
Agency of Ministry of Environment and Forestry arrested the trader together
with nine slow lorises.
On Tuesday (27/09/2016) the ISCP team, OIC, Wildlife
Authority (BKSDA), Security and Law enforcement Authority (BPPLHK) and the
Gunung Leuser National Park (GNLP) authority translocated the nine slow lorises
from Medan to release site in Besitang and released the animals on Wednesday
morning at 1 am.
