Lives in a remote village in the Batang Toru Ecosystem (November 10, 2020)
Posted on 19:41 November 11th, 2020

SCORPION Foundation staff conducts “Live-in Program” activities in a remote village in the Batang Toru Ecosystem, Sumatra, namely Batu Horing village. The purpose of this activity is to find out in more detail about the daily lives of the people who live in the forest.

During the 3 days stay (8-10 Nov 2020), SCORPION staff participated in the daily activities of the local community including looking for forest products, hunting, and collecting plantation products which are planted in the forest. SCORPION staff also discussed various matters, including the wildlife that has been hunted in this area.

Ten years ago, many orangutans (Pongo tapanuliensis) were seen roaming the forest around this village. But unfortunately, after walking around this village, even walking deep into the forest, not one orangutan was found, nor was there any nest for them.
