Joint Patrol in Dolok Sanggul Village, Batang Toru Ecosystem, Sumatra (November 14, 2020)
Posted on 01:56 November 19th, 2020

On November 14, 2020, Rangers from the SCORPION Foundation and Forestry Police from the Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA SU - SKW V) conducted a joint patrol activity in Dolok Sanggul, South Tapanuli Regency, Sumatra.  This village is located near Dolok Sipirok Nature Reserve in the Batang Toru Ecosystem, which is the habitat of the most endangered species of great ape Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis).

Head of Dolok Sipirok Nature Reserve, Muda Hutabarat said that this area used to be a forest, but now many trees are being cut down and then planted with bananas and rubber. We are worried that in this area there will often be conflicts with orangutans.
