Posted on 18:47 November 30th, 2020

On November 25, 2020, Forestry police from Wildife Authority (BBKSDA SU) and Rangers from SCORPION Foundation were carried out joint patrol in the village of Sibio-bio, South Tapanuli Regency, Sumatra. Sibio-bio village locates in the southern part of the Batang Toru Ecosystem which is home to various endemic species of Sumatra, such as Tapanuli orangutan, Sumatran Tiger, and Sumatran laughingthrush.

During the mission, the team found an alleged encroachment of about 2 hectares of land in a conservation area that had been converted into a coffee plantation. This case is still under investigation to find the best solution. In addition, this area has the potential to become an orangutan habitat corridor between Lubuk Raya and Sibualbuali Nature Reserves.
