Human-Tiger Conflict Occurs Again in Pastap Village, Mandailing Natal, Sumatra (June 6, 2023)
Posted on 19:51 June 22nd, 2023

The Wildlife Authority (BBKSDASU) installed a tiger trap cage in Pastap village, Tambangan sub-district, Mandailing Natal Regency on Monday, 6th of June 2023. A Sumatran tiger appeared again in this village.

Previously, a tiger also entered this village and was snared in a wild boar snare. After an evacuation, the tiger finally died.

Upon request from the villagers, the BBKSDASU plans to capture and evacuate this animal from this village.

The latest presence of the tiger in Pastap village occurred on Saturday (4th of June 2023) and was seen directly by a villager, Mr Bahrim (55). Because he was afraid of being attacked by the animal, he climbed a rubber tree. From the tree, he saw the tiger approaching his chicken coop. His dog had put up a fight against the tiger but unfortunately the dog was injured by the tiger and ran away.

After the tiger left, Bahrin came down from the tree and returned to his house with his dog. Then he reported the incident to the head of the Pastap village head, and the village head immediately reported it to the Tambangan sub-district government head.

The Tambangan sub-district head also reported the incident to the Batang Gadis National Park (TNBG) authority, local police, local military office, and the wildlife authority (BBKSDASU) field office.

The BBKSDASU field staff, Mr Muslim Surbakti made an observation to the location and found indications that the animal approaching Bahrin's chicken coop was actually a tiger.

During the observation, Mr. Muslim, was asked by some villagers to evacuate the tiger from the villager. In response to the community's request, Muslim immediately coordinated with the Section V head of BBKSDASU in Sipirok who immediately gave his approval. For that, the BBKSDASU and Scorpion Foundation together with some other local government offices, went to Pastap village to install the tiger trap cage.
