Awareness Campaign for Protection of Tapanuli Orangutan at Nurul Iman Grand Mosque in Sibio-bio Village, South Tapanuli (October 9, 2020)
Posted on 13:48 October 12th, 2020

Scorpion Foundation field staff approached an Islamic ulema, Ustad R. Surya Siregar, to include about orangutan protection in his lecture during Friday prayer lecture in Nurul Iman Grand Mosque, Sibio-bio village, East Angkola subdistrict of South Tapanuli regency (2020.10.09).

In his lecture, Ustad Siregar appealed to his congregation to always protect nature and the environment, not to damage and cut wood in protected forests because it could cause flooding and landslides. Mr. Siregar also appealed to protect orangutans and other protected animals, because God has said to protect all living things that have been created on earth.

About 100 people attended this Friday prayer. This is the 11th place of worship in 2020, where we campaign for the urgency of protecting the tapanuli orangutan in the Batang Toru Ecosystem.
