Otoritas Satwa Liar (BBKSDA SU) berhasil menyita seekor burung beo Nias di Medan, Sumatera (22/10). Penyitaan ini diawali dari informasi masyarakat yang melihat burung beo di depan rumah warga.

Pemilik burung berinisial BT, 41 tahun, bertempat tinggal di Medan Johor. Rumahnya digunakan sebagai toko yang menjual ayam dan peralatan peternakan ayam.

Atas dugaan kepemilikan ilegal hewan dilindungi, ia dapat diancam dengan hukuman maksimal 5 tahun penjara dan / atau denda Rp. 100.000.000 (USD $ 6.825), sesuai dengan UU No. 5 tahun 1990.

Sementara kasus ini dalam penyelidikan lebih lanjut, burung beo nias telah disita sebagai barang bukti. Kemudian tim lapangan dari Yayasan SCORPION dan Polisi Kehutanan dari BBKSDA SU membawanya ke Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Liar (PPS) di Sibolangit.

Burung beo Nias (Gracula robusta) merupakan spesies yang sangat terancam punah (CR) dan merupakan spesies endemik Sumatera. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan penguatan penegakan hukum untuk melindungi spesies ini dari ancaman kepunahan di alam liar. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dalam rangka pemantauan peredaran satwa liar di Medan oleh BBKSDA SU dan Scorpion Foundation.

The Wildlife Agency (BBKSDA SU) succeeded in confiscating a Nias parrot in Medan, Sumatra (22/10). This confiscation began with information from the public who saw a parrot in front of a resident's house.

The bird owner with the initials BT, 41 years old, resides in Medan Johor. His house is used as a shop that sells chicken and chicken farming equipment.

On suspicion of illegal ownership of protected animals, he could be threatened with a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison and / or a fine of Rp. 100,000,000 (USD $ 6,825), in accordance with Law no. 5 in 1990.

While this case is under further investigation, the nias parrot has been confiscated as evidence. Then the field team from the SCORPION Foundation and the forestry police from BBKSDA SU took him to the Wildlife Rescue Center (PPS) in Sibolangit.

The Nias parrot (Gracula robusta) is a critically endangered species (CR) and an endemic species of Sumatra. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen law enforcement to protect this species from the threat of extinction in the wild. This activity is carried out in the context of monitoring the circulation of wild animals in Medan by BBKSDA SU and the Scorpion Foundation.
