Posted on 12:02 November 03rd, 2020

Scorpion Foundation field staff in Batangtoru, Dedi approached an Islamic ulema Mr. Nasaruddin Harahap to cooperate in awareness campaign for Tapanuli orangutan. It was agreed that Nasaruddin would include Tapanuli orangutan issue in his Friday prayer speech which was held on the 30th of October 2020 in Al-Ikhlas mosque, Simaninggir Village, Marancar subdistrict of South Tapanuli.

During his speech, Mr. Nasaruddin invited his congregation to protect the forest around them as well as protected animals around us, such as birds and orangutans. As Allah created humans to have thoughts and minds so that humans can protect and not destroy the forest because it can harm us, such as landslides and floods, so let us follow Allah's orders and keep the prohibitions away.

About 120 people attended this Friday prayer. Simaninggir village locates in the west block of the Batang Toru Ecosystem, which is the natural habitat of the Tapanuli orangutan.
