A collaboration efforts in handling human-tiger conflict around Sei Musam Village (July 18, 2020)

With collaborationbetween Gunung Leuser N. P Authority and The Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA Sumut),the efforts to handle the human-tiger conflict (HTC) in Sei Musam village,Batang Serangan subdistrict of Langkat regency in North Sumtra have beenperformed well by the joint team (2020/07/18).

Starting from Tuesday, July 14, 2020, the team which alsoconsist of NGO/CSO including WCS-IP, Scorpion Foundation, Care Sumatra, SRP, havemade an effort to drive away the tiger by sounding the boom, firecracker and patrollingat various area in the village, which adjacent with Gunung Leuser National Parkareas.

Based on patrol report by team until 17 July 2020, there areno more signs of tigers’ presence, such as new tiger footprints around thevillage area. This activity was expected to reduce the panic of the localcommunity and also to make sure the tigers are safe from the possibility to behunted / killed, because tigers recently have been found several times enteringthe plantation areas.
