Supervision of orangutans in Kandi Zoo Sawahlunto (Sumatra) is Weak, Scorpion Insists Improvement (May 19, 2016)
Posted on 17:37 May 19th, 2016

Supervision of orangutans in Kandi Zoo Sawahlunto, West Sumatra province, is very weak. Scorpion Foundation today (Thursday, 19/05/ 2016) sent a request to the head of BKSDA in West Sumatra province to provide guidance to the management of the Kandi Wildlife Park also known as Kandi Zoo or Sawahlunto Zoo. Scorpion Investigator visited this park today and found visitors giving food to orangutans without supervision of the park animal keepers or staff.

Condition of elephants in this park was also reported by Scorpion because these large mammals were chained with short chains causing them unable to move freely. In the electronic mail today, Scorpion expressed concerns about the condition of the elephants.  “Chaining the elephants with very short chains is a form of cruelty to animals,” Scorpion expressed in the mail.
