Scorpion Foundation today sent a letter to director of Singkawang Zoo or also known as Sinka Zoo in West Kalimantan province of Indonesia to put an end to animal cruelty in Singkawang zoo especially towards orangutan and elephant.
Recently a team of investigators from Scorpion Foundation together with its partner from Friends of the Orangutans (Malaysia) visited Sinka Zoo in Singkawang, West Kalimantan. They watched the two animals that lived with the torment where elephants were chained in both legs and couldn’t move freely. Orangutan was placed in an isolated room with poor condition and dirty.
Scorpion Foundation asked Sinka Zoo management to rescue the two rare
species as soon as possible. If they are not moved to rescue centre or not
given better care, then these animals may die in the near future because of terrible
life environment.
Carbon copies of the letter were also sent to Director General of Natural Resource and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), and also to the Director of Biodiversity Conservation.at the MoEF.
