WAZA statement on visitor and animal interactions at Taman Safari
Indonesia Cisarua – Bogor
Many zoos and aquariums use interactive experiences to support their
conservation, research and educational goals. WAZA believes that interactions
can contribute to building connections between people and animals. WAZA
provides strategic guidance to the zoo and aquarium community. WAZA supports
the development and improvement of management systems and training in zoos.
In the event of a welfare issue, WAZA endeavors to first provide
training and guidance to member zoos and aquariums, in lieu of an immediate
consideration of suspension or termination of membership.
WAZA is in the process of reviewing guidelines for interactions with
animals based on the recently launched WAZA Animal Welfare Strategy.
