The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in North
Sumatra confiscated over 400 birds for using false document in Kuala Namo
International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra province of Indonesia. The
birds consist of Love bird, Greater green leafbird, and White-rumped
shama.
“The birds would be brought from Medan to Yogya, Bali and Jakarta. These birds were not protected," head of BBKSDA North Sumatra, Dr. Hotmauli Sianturi told the media in Medan on Tuesday (17/5/2016).
Hotmauli said, the confiscation was carried out on Thursday (12/5/2016 when her office got the information of the birds. As soon as the information received the BKSDA team immediately went to the airplain cargo in Kuala Namu, Deliserdang.
BKSDA staff found over 400 birds in boxes. "After examining its document, it is found that it was false. The case will be handed over to the police. The false document already kept by BKSDA North Sumatra," she said
According to Hotmauli, there is an indication of involvement and insider.
Some of the birds have already died. "These birds will follow medical check, and rehabilitation,” Hotmauli said. (Detiknews)
