The Scorpion Wildlife Trade Monitoring Group insisted
Jakarta Governor Mr. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) to shut down wildlife market
in Jatinegara, East Jakarta. In a protest in front of Governor Office in Jakarta today
(Thursday, 13/10) the group demanded closing down of the Jatinegara market,
because, it is not only a place for trading of protected animals but it also
causes traffic jam and dirty.
“Everyday, we are shown cruelty to animals here. Some
animals are protected by the law,” Senior Investigator, Marison Guciano told
Pos Kota daily newspaper.
According to monitoring of Scorpion in Jatinegara market,
the majority of the wildlife animals on
sale here are taken from the wild without permit, and they are not
covered with transportation permits (Surat Angktu Tumbuhan dan Satwa Dalam
Negeri -SATS-DN) as required by the Ministerial regulation no.
447/kpts-II/2003.
