The Annual Work Plan 2017 between Scorpion
Foundation and the Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP) was signed at the GLNP office
in Medan by the Head of Technical Department at the GLNP, Rahmad Saleh and the
Director of Scorpion Foundation, Gunung Gea.
Earlier in January 2016, the GLNP and the Scorpion signed a Contract Agreement for five year duration, which stipulated, among other things, that Annual Work Plan is to be prepared every year.
For the 2017, activities are focused on the western part of the GLNP with main activities; a)monitoring of illegal wildlife hunting, b)environmental awareness and education, c)sustainable economic strengthening, and d)supporting restoration of the Park.
The support for restoration of the park is intended to replant degraded areas with various sub-species of fig trees (Ficus Sp.). Fruits of these trees are favorite food of orangutans.
A fig tree nursery has been started in Aceh Barat Daya, with 1,000 seeds ready for the early stage.
