Mass Deaths of Birds in Merak Port Have Begun (February 23, 2016)

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) has intensified coordination with the police at Merak Port,  Cilegon, today so that the birds confiscated by the police last Sunday, can be released to the wild. The ministry plans to keep a few birds for evidence in the up coming  legal court case process. The rest will be released to the wild to avoid mass deaths.

A reliable source told Scorpion Investigator that the number of birds arrived at Merak Port last Sunday (21/02/2016) were actually 513 birds consisted of 480 alive, and 33 birds dead. So, during the transportation from Jambi to Merak port, the mass deaths already begun. Immediate action of the MoEF, quarantine and the police is seriously needed to avoid further mass deaths.
