Macaque conflict in Medan Selayang, Sumatra (July 09, 2021)

Pihak otoritas menerima laporan masyarakat bahwa seekor monyet ekor panjang (Macaca fascicularis) di Medan Selayang karena monyet telah menganggu hewan ternak dan hewan peliharaan masyarakat.

Pada hari Minggu 04 Juli 2021, tim gabungan yang terdiri dari pihak otoritas lokal dan SCORPION telah memasang kandang perangkap. Namun 5 hari upaya penanganan, monyet tersebut belum berhasil diamankan.  Pihak otoritas bersama SCORPION sedang mempersiapkan cara efektif lainnya untuk menyelesaikan persoalan konflik satwa liar ini, tentu dengan cara tidak dengan membunuh satwa tersebut.

Selain kasus konflik monyet ini, ada juga 3 laporan serupa lainnya, dimana masyarakat merasa terganggung akibat adanya keberadaan monyet di area perkotaan. Diduga monyet-monyet yang berkeliaran di area perkotaan seperti Medan, merupakan bekas hewan peliharaan seseorang.

On Sunday 04 July 2021, a joint team consisting of local authorities and SCORPION has installed a trap cage. However, 5 days of handling efforts, the monkey has not been successfully arrested. The authorities together with SCORPION are preparing other effective ways to resolve this wildlife conflict issue, of course by not killing the animal.

In addition to this monkey conflict case, there are also 3 other similar reports, where people feel disturbed by the presence of monkeys in urban areas. It is suspected that the monkeys that roam in urban areas such as Medan are someone's former pets.
