Joint Patrol in Hutaimbaru Luat Lombang, South Tapanuli, Sumatra (May 5, 2021)

Polisi Kehutanan dari Otoritas Satwa liar (BBKSDA SU SKW-V) bersama Rangers dari Yayasan SCORPION melakukan patroli gabungan di Dusun Hutaimbaru, Desa Luat Lombang, Kecamatan Sipirok, Kabupaten Tapanuli Selatan, Sumatera Utara (05/05). Tujuan patroli ini yaitu memantau daerah yang dicurigai telah terjadi penebangan liar dan perambahan kawasan di sekitar Cagar Alam Dolok Sipirok yang merupakan rumah bagi Orangutan Tapanuli.

Dalam patroli ini, tim gabungan menemukan beberapa gelondongan kayu yang diduga dicuri dari Kawasan Cagar Alam Dolok Sipirok. Gelondongan kayu tersebut merupakan jenis kayu meranti (Shorea spp.), yang siap angkut untuk dijual. Namun saat patroli dilakukan tim belum berhasil menangkap pelaku aktivitas ilegal ini.

The Forestry Police from the Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA SU SKW-V) together with Rangers from the SCORPION Foundation conducted a joint patrol in Hutaimbaru Hamlet, Luat Lombang Village, Sipirok SubDistrict, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra (05/05). The purpose of this patrol is to monitor areas suspected of illegal logging and encroachment in the vicinity of the Dolok Sipirok Nature Reserve, which is the home of the Tapanuli Orangutan.

In this patrol, the joint team found several logs allegedly stolen from the Dolok Sipirok Nature Reserve Area. Log wood is a type of meranti wood (Shorea spp.), which is ready to be transported for sale. But while the patrol was conducted the team has not managed to catch the perpetrators of this illegal activity.
