Awareness Campaign for Protection of Tapanuli Orangutan through Islamic Lectures in Sijungkang Village, South Tapanuli (June 19, 2020)

Field Staff of Scorpion continued supporting roles of religious leaders to give lectures in mosques with inclusion of message of the importance of protecting Tapanuli orangutans. On Friday Prayer (2020/06/19) at Al Azhar Mosque in Sijungkang Village, East Angkola, Subdistrict in South Tapanuli regency, Islamic Ulema Darwan Ritonga asked his audience to help government effort to protect Orangutan, Tiger, and other protected birds. He also said in his Friday Pray Speech, “God said that if there is a flood, or a disaster caused by an animal, then it's because of human activity itself”. Approximately 100 people attended this Friday event. Sijungkang village locates near the border of Dolok Sibual-buali Nature Reserve-the habitat of the Tapanuli orangutan.
