Supervision of animals in Bukittinggi Zoo needs serious improvements. From monitoring of Scorpion Investigator in the zoo today (Sunday, 15 May 2016), visitors were free to make direct contact with the orangutans. This can pose a health problem because human diseases can be transmitted to the orangutans as human DNA has 97% similarity with orangutans.’

Sale of turtle eggs took place on the roadside at Jalan Sudirman Medan. The turtle eggs were collected in Bagan Siapi-api, Riau province, and brought to Medan for sale.

Following criticism from Scorpion Foundation last year, the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) Bengkulu moved two Sumatran tigers (Phantera tigris sumatrae) from BKSDA office to Seblat Nature Recreation Park (TWA) in North Bengkulu district of Bengkulu Province. One of the tigers, Elsa, already passed away, but another tiger, Giring, is still alive in a cage 3x3 meters size.

Following the discussions with WAZA, Taman Safari Indonesia Cisarua - Bogor have decided to stop all direct interactions for visitors with big cats during the photography sessions, with effect from 11 May 2016. There will no longer be any direct contact or interaction between visitors and the big cats.

Sales of illegal birds continue in Jatinegara wildlife market, Jakara. On Thursday (12 May 2016) Scorpion Investigator visited this markets and saw there were still so many birds on sale in this market. Scorpion was informed by several traders that the birds were brought to Jakarta without transportation permit (SATS-DN) from BKSDA.
