Natural Resource Conservation Agency (BKSDA) Jakarta on Wednesday confiscated a siamang gibbon (Symphalangus syndactylus) from a military housing complex (Komlek Perumahan Dephankam) in Cibubur, East Jakarta. This confiscation was carried out following a report of Scorpion Foundation.
On July 24, Scorpion Foundation on its letter number 01/Scorpion/VII/2015 reported its founding of the illegal captive siamang gibbon, an endangered species according to IUCN Red List.
Six weeks after reporting of the captive siamang, Scorpion Director Gunung Gea accompanied by Scorpion Senior Investigator Marison Guciano, visited BKSDA Jakarta office on Tuesday (8/09/2015) questioning follow up of the Scorpion letter. Three BKSDA Jakarta officers (Yanang, Adam, Trustiadi) all confirmed that they would take the siamang on Wednesday (09/09/2015).
Scorpion Investigators visited the housing complex again on Wednesday (09/09/2015) and took pictures of BKSDA officers confiscating the siamang.
“Scorpion has paved the way for freedom of this siamang gibbon. This protected sepecies should be given a chance to live in the wild habitat again,” said Scorpion Senior Investigator, Marison Guciano.
