A Meeting between Scorpion Foundation and Forest Management Unit (KPH) XI (August 18, 2020)

Scorpion Foundation team visited the office of Forest Management Unit (KPH) Area XI in Pandan, the capital city of Central Tapanuli regency, to report its findings of illegal activities on the area under the jurisdiction of KPH XI. In a meeting with the Head of Forest Protection and Community Empowerment at the KPH XI, Mr. Asep Perry M. Athoriez, the Scorpion team which consisted of Scorpion Foundation Executive Director, Ali Bangun Gea and his staff (Suma Brata and  Dedi Daulay) explained their findings during various visits to Batang Toru Ecosystem from January to June 2020 including alleged encroachment and illegal logging activities.

During the meeting, Ali Bangun Gea also explained his plan to investigate hunting of Tapanuli orangutans in a protected forest area in the West Block of the Batang Toru Ecosystem. Mr. ASP gave permission for the investigation, but had to send a notification letter before the activity was carried out.
