Sale of turtle eggs took place on the roadside at Jalan Sudirman Medan. The turtle eggs were collected in Bagan Siapi-api, Riau province, and brought to Medan for sale.
Price of the turtle egg is Rp 6,000 (US$0.5) per
egg. This price is much higher compared to the price of chicken egg which is IDR1,000
(US$0.1) per egg.
Some people in Medan buy turtle eggs because of the
wrong information saying that consuming turtle eggs can increase a person's sex
drive.
The turtle egg seller told Scorpion Investigator on
Wednesday (May 11th 2016) that last year he was arrested by forestry police for
one night because of selling turtle eggs. He continues to collect and sells turtle
eggs because he needs money for his family.
