Scorpion Foundation Activists Discover Starving Animals at Bandung Zoo

When visiting Bandung Zoo, West Java, at the weekend an investigator saw skinny sun bears so hungry one was eating its own dung. Others begged zoo visitors, who fed the bears junk food.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ptOC7Z-W0I  and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8HbHChFYL4&feature=youtu.be

This is the same ‘death zoo’ where an elephant recently died from neglect. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3586447/Tears-roll-Yani-elephant-s-face-moments-latest-animal-die-one-Indonesia-s-death-zoos-animals-kept-dirty-rusting-cages.html#_=_

Marison Guciano, senior investigator of Scorpion Foundaton said, “This zoo is full of starving animals. It’s very, very, bad. Why don’t the management feed their animals?”

It is not only Scorpion who are concerned about the animals at Bandung Zoo. Reviews on TripAdvisor  https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g297704-d3949033-Reviews-Bandung_Zoo-Bandung_West_Java_Java.html  Visitors are obviously upset to see so many hungry animals in dirty cages.”

The bears kept in a concrete cage and no grass. Nothing natural.  All very cruel. One of the worst zoos in all of Indonesia.

Guciano added, “Scorpion Foundation asks our government to please help these bears and other animals now. They need to stop the suffering and make sure the management understand their responsibilities. Maybe it would be best if this place was closed down now, before more animals die a painful and avoidable death.”

A Sun Bear expert, Dr. Gabriella Fredriksoon told Scorpion Foundation, in a normal situation it is not common for Sun bears (Helarctos malayanus) to eat their dung. “The sun bears will only eat their dung if they are very, very hungry and no food to eat,” Gabriella stated.

Bandung, capital of Indonesia’s West Java province, is a large city set amid volcanoes and tea plantations.
