Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) Bengkulu transferred two Sumatran tigers (Phantera tigris sumatrae), the victims of conflicts, to the Seblat Nature Recreation Park (TWA) in North Bengkulu district of Bengkulu Province.

Section Head of BKSDA Bengkulu Region II, Dervish Saragih told the media the transfers were carried out to optimize treatment of the two protected rare species.

"Before the transfer, the two tigers were placed in  small cages (at BKSDA Bengkulu office) causing their health cares unoptimal. So, we took the initiative to temprarily transfer to Seblat Recreation Park because there is no other larger enclosure available," he said in Bengkulu on Thursday.

The transfer of the tigers to Seblat Recreation Park at the back of the Bukit Barisan mountain were conducted by using four wheel vehicles. During the journey which took four hours, the tigers were anestised.

Dervish said, supervision of the two tigers (Elsa and Giring) was also more optimal at Seblat because this location was also an Elephant Training Center(ETC), which are controlled by a number of rangers and elephant mahot.

"This transfer is only for temporarily and still waiting the decision by Ministry of Environment and Forestry on the future of both tigers," he said.

Tiger locally famous with name Raja Hutan (King of the Jungle.” One of these tigers is the viction of illegal poaching while the other one is evacuated by BKSDA officer after attacking a farmer in Seluma district.

The female tiger, Elsa,  rescued from a trap of poachers in the forest area of Kaur district (in Bengkulu province). To save her life, Elsa's front right leg was amputated because of a serious injury (decomposed)  when she was found by the (BKSDA) officers.

The male tiger, Giring, evacuated from rubber plantation in Seluma for attacking and killing a rubber farmer.

Darwis hopes the Minister of Environment and Forestry soon make a decision on the future of the tiger so that both are not too long to be in cages in the Seblat Recreation Park.
