Illegal wildlife markets in Medan increased currently. Scorpion foundation insisted the government conservation agency (BKSDA) in North Sumatra to apply quota system to control harvest of the wildlife in the forest.
In a letter to BKSDA on 28 November 2015 Scorpion reported its finding from visit to wildlife illegal markets in Medan. In the visit on Sunday (November 22, 2015) Scorpion discovered that illegal wildlife sales growing in this city. At Pasar Bintang Medan, wildlife was displayed on the road side.
The illegal sale of wild birds also took place every Sunday in front of the Buddhist temple at Jalan Imam Bonjol Medan and at the Cemara Asri Housing Complex.
In the letter Scorpion insisted BKSDA to implement a quota system to capture animals in the wild. With the quota system then BKSDA in North Sumatra will be able to control the harvesting and poaching of wildlife.
