Supplier of Pangolin Scales to Medan (April 23, 2020)
Posted on 18:21 April 28th, 2020

Some sources in Medan told Scorpion Foundation that Aceh is still one of the main sources of pangolin scales of Medan for smuggling abroad, therefore an investigator was assigned to investigate illegal poacher of this critically endangered species in Aceh. The investigator found a pangolin (Manis javanica) kept illegally in a home of a villager in Lhok Pawoh village, Sawang village in South Aceh district on 23 of April 2020. This finding was reported to local BKSDA in South Aceh. Because it was only one animal the BKSDA in Aceh did not take any legal action against the owner but instead released the animal back in the forest. Pangolin (Manis javanica) is a protected species according to the Indonesian regulation and a Critically Endangered species according the IUCN Red List.
