Preparation of Work Plan for Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Forum (September 18, 2021)

Forum Konservasi Orangutan Sumatera (FOKUS) melakukan rapat Penyusunan Rencana Kerja di Mikie Holiday Resort – Berastagi, Kabupaten Karo, Sumatera Utara. Kegiatan diskusi 2 hari ini (17-18 September 2021) difasilitasi oleh Forum Orangutan Indonesia (FORINA) yang turut hadir pada acara tersebut.

Para pegiat konservasi orangutan di Sumatera Utara yang hadir pada diskusi ini memformulasikan 7 permasalahan orangutan, diantaranya 1) Masih terjadinya aktivitas legal dan ilegal yang menyebabkan deforestasi, degradasi, fragmentasi, kebakaran hutan di habitat orangutan; 2) Belum optimalnya aturan dalam pengelolaan dan pengawasan kesejahteraan orangutan di Kebun Binatang; 3) Kurangnya pemahaman dan kapasitas pengambil kebijakan, pengelola kawasan hutan dan penegak hukum; 4) Penurunan populasi orangutan karena perburuan, perdagangan dan pemeliharaan ilegal; 5) Isu pengelolaan Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam dan Ekosistem belum menjadi pertimbangan penting; 6) Tren termasuk frekwensi dan distribusi konflik manusia-orangutan berpotensi meningkat; 7) Sinergi parapihak (pegiat konservasi dan sektor lain) masih belum optimal dan tidak saling menguatkan.

The Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Forum (FOKUS) held a Work Plan Preparation meeting at Mikie Holiday Resort – Berastagi, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. This 2-day discussion (17-18 September 2021) was facilitated by the Indonesian Orangutan Forum (FORINA) who was also present at the event.
