The Tapanuli Orangutan Protection Unit (TOPU) of Scorpion Foundation and the Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA) rangers in South Tapanuli carried out a joint monitoring of orangutan habitat in South Tapanuli part of the Batangtoru Forest (also known as Tapanuli Forest). This time, it was not only ground monitoring but also monitoring the orangutan habitat from the air by using drone.

Tapanuli orangutan-a newly discovered species of great ape in Indonesia. With only about 800 remaining in Batangtoru forest, the Tapanuli orangutan is the most Critically Endangered great ape in the world.
