44 Protected Animals in Riau, Sumatra, will get the chance to be back in wild habitat (May 31, 2018)
Posted on 15:51 May 31st, 2018

Last April the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) launched a new movement to eradicate illegal wildlife trade in Indonesia. At the aftermath of the launching, it is interesting to see that provincial police in Riau, Sumatra,  runs a one-month operation to save wildlife in Riau province.

The operation, which was started 2 weeks ago, rescued 44 protected animals in Riau province including gibbons, various birds, and reptiles, from two regencies (Siak, Kuantan Singingi, and Kepulauan Meranti). This is a very good work by the Riau police, and it is also a good chance for all these protected wildlife to be returned back in the wild.

As reported by GoRiau.com, this operation is carried out jointly with the Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA) in Riau starting from 14 May until 14 June 2018.
