Joint patrol for protection of Tapanuli orangutan (March 27, 2018)

The Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA) in North Sumatra and Scorpion Foundation carried out a joint patrol in the Batang Toru Forest complex on Thursday (29th of March 2018). The joint patrol was carried out on the border of Dolok Sibual-buali Nature Reserve in South Tapanuli with purpose to prevent capture of Tapanuli orangutan.

With only 800 reamining in Batang Toru forest the Tapanuli orangutan is the most Critically Endangered great ape in the world.

Participants of the joint patrol include: Muda Hutabarat (Resort Head of Dolok Sibual-buali Nature Reserve), Edy Supriono, Bona Pardosi, M. Nasir Siregar, Ambet P Harianja, and Yasra Alfariza (head of Tapanuli Orangutan Protection Unit/TOPU from Scorpion Foundation).
