Government agencies, the Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA), the Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP), Medan office of the Law Enforcement Agency of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), and NGO’s, regularly hold monthly meetings to discuss environmental issues in North Sumatra province. For this month (March 2018) the monthly meeting was carried out in the Medan office of Scorpion Foundation.
The monthly meeting this month discussed environmental issues and crimes against animals and efforts to overcome them but the discussion this time was dominated by the recent killing of Sumatran tiger in Mandailing Natal of North Sumatra Province and the steps needed to avoid a recurrence of similar events in the future.
The meeting was led by the Head of the Medan office of the Directorate General of Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), Edward Sembiring, and attended by head of North Sumatra provincial Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA), Mauli Sianturi. Up to 19 representatives from NGOs and government agencies participated in the meeting.
