Delivery of 6000 Stems of Arabica Coffee Seeds in Ramba Sihasur Desa Village (July 24, 2022)
Posted on 19:51 July 29th, 2022

Ramba Sihasur, Sipirok

The handover of 6000 stems of arabica coffee seedlings to 2 community groups in Ramba Sihasur Village which is home to the Tapanui orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis) in the Eastern block of the Batang Toru Ecosystem, Sumatra, Indonesia (24/07/2022).

This assistance is a follow-up to the declaration of commitment from the “Subur” and “Mawar” farmer groups in Ramba Sihasur village to protect the Tapanui orangutan in the Dolok Sipirok Nature Reserve which was signed last June. If the community takes advantage of this assistance by planting, caring for, and selling coffee properly, it is hoped that the profit from the sale can improve the local community's economy and reduce dependence on the illegal use of forest products that can damage the habitat of the Tapanuli orangutan.

The seed handover ceremony was carried out by the Head of the Association "Dongan Ni Mawas Timur / Friends of The Tapanuli Orangutans in East Block (FOTTO-EB)"-Fajri Ikhsan Tambunan with the Program Coordinator from the Scorpion Foundation to the two farmer group leaders and witnessed by the Village Head Ramba Sihasur.
