Senin, 30 Agustus 2021, tim gabungan dari Otoritas Satwa Liar (BBKSDA Sumatra Utara-Bidang Wilayah III Sidimpuan) bersama anggota dari Yayasan SCORPION dan tim medis HOCRU-OIC berhasil mengamankan seekor gibbon (Hylobates agilis) yang dipelihara warga di Desa Batu Horing, Kecamatan Batang Toru, Kabupaten Tapanuli Selatan.

Menurut keterangan pemilik satwa, DZ (54 tahun) memelihara gibbon tersebut lebih dari dua bulan dan tidak mengetahui bahwa satwa tersebut dilindungi dan dilarang untuk dipelihara. Gibbon tersebut diperkirakan berumur dua tahun. Kasus kepemilikan satwa ilegal ini bersumber dari informan Yayasan Scorpion yang melihat gibbon ini berada didalam kandang di depan rumah DZ ketika melakukan rutinitas pemantauan peredaran satwa liar.

According to the animal owner's statement, DZ (54 years old) kept the gibbon for more than two months and did not know that the animal was protected and prohibited from being kept. The gibbon is estimated to be two years old. This case of illegal animal ownership came from an informant from the Scorpion Foundation who saw this gibbon in a cage in front of DZ's house while carrying out routine monitoring of wildlife circulation.
