Patroli gabungan antara Polisi Kehutanan dari Otoritas Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser (BPTN 1-SKW VI) bersama Rangers dari Yayasan Scorpion menemukan adanya dugaan aktivitas ilegal di Sikundur, Sumatera (15/08).  Patroli ini bertujuan untuk memantau dugaan aktivitas perburuan, penebangan liar dan perambahan kawasan di sekitar area lindung Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser yang berada di Provinsi Sumatera Utara.

Dalam kegiatan patroli, tim menemukan adanya orang-orang yang membuat membuat tenda camping di pinggir hutan. Polisi kehutanan telah mengusir orang-orang tersebut, kemudian menghimbau mereka agar tidak memasuki kawasan hutan lindung, berburu dan aktivitas ilegal lainnya.

Sikundur merupakan rumah bagi Orangutan Sumatera (Pongo abelii), harimau dan beberapa satwa kharismatik lainnya, berada di lanskap Leuser Timur di desa Bukit Mas Kecamatan Besitang Kabupaten Langkat.

A joint patrol between the Forestry Police from the Gunung Leuser National Park Authority (BPTN 1-SKW VI) and Rangers from the Scorpion Foundation found suspected illegal activities in Sikundur, Sumatra (15/08). This patrol aims to monitor suspected hunting, illegal logging and encroachment activities around the protected area of Gunung Leuser National Park in North Sumatra Province.

During patrol activities, the team found that there were people who made camping tents on the edge of the forest. The forest police have expelled the people, then advised them not to enter protected forest areas, hunt and other illegal activities.

Sikundur is home to the Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii), tigers and several other charismatic animals, located in the East Leuser landscape in the village of Bukit Mas, Besitang District, Langkat Regency.
