Safari Park Slammed Over Footage Appearing to Show 'Drugged' Lion Forced to Pose for Tourist Snaps (April 7, 2016)

Officials at the safari park where the pictures were taken insist the animal was not drugged but just "very sleepy"

Disturbing video shows 'drugged lion forced' to pose for photos with tourists

A 'heavily-sedated' zoo lion is being forced to pose for pictures with a young visitor in this distressing footage, an animal rights group has claimed.

But owners of the safari park where the video was shot insist the big cat was not drugged - just very sleepy.

Animal rights groups have slammed Taman Safari Indonesia for allowing the young boy to pose with the cub, sleeping or otherwise.

The clip was posted online by Indonesian animal rights organisation Scorpion Wildlife Trade Monitoring Group.

It shows the lion struggling to stay awake as a staff member lifts its head up with a baton so the young boy can have his picture taken.

It would seem the lion can barely stay awake as tourists pose for pictures

The drowsy animal can barely keep its eyes open and at one point slumps backwards on the tree stump it's been placed on, unable to stay concious.

According to Scorpion, visitors to the safari park pay £1 each to have their photo taken with the lion.
