The Provincial Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA-SU) Evacuates a Pair of Long-Tailed Macaques (January 13, 2022)

An owner of a long-tailed monkey (Macaca fascicularis) became a victim of his own animal in Polonia Village, Medan Polonia subdistrict of Medan, North Sumatra on Thursday (2022/01/13).

After obtaining a report from security forces, the BBKSDA-SU Officers together with its partner, the Scorpion Fpundation Indonesia, immediately after receiving the information, moved to the location and took evacuation measures. At the location there were 2 individuals (a pair) of long-tailed mocaques that have been kept by their owners for 3 years. Later, one the monkeys attacked the owner. To avoid further victims, the owner hopes the officers to evacuate the animals..

Finally, the two animals were successfully evacuated by the team and handed over to Scorpion Foundation for rehabilitation before being released into their habitat.

The wildlife authority (BBKSDA-SU) urges the public not to keep the long-tailed monkey, because it can be dangerous for both the owner and the surrounding community.
