Scorpion Wildlife
Trade Monitoring Group insists the Directorate of Biodiversity Conservation at
the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) to stop cruelty to elephants in
Surabaya Zoo. The request was submitted in a letter sent via email today
(Wednesday, 4th of January 2017, copied to Director General of
Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation at the MoEF, and to the Minister
of MoEF.
The Scorpion investigator
visited the zoo last Tuesday (27th December 2016) for monitoring at
the zoo and find an elephant with two legs (one front and one back legs) chained.
The elephant was standing on a concrete floor containing urine and feces. The
elephant were not able to access food and drinking water and looked so stress.
