Scorpion Foundation
appeals to the Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA) in West Java to end cruelty and torture to
the wildlife in this province. The appeal is conveyed via email today (30/08/2016)
to BBKSDA Officer who is in charge of handling zoo affairs in West Java Province.
In current visit to
Plaza Asia Mini Zoo, Scorpion Investigator found siamang gibbons, pig-tailed macaques,
and long-tailed macaques have no water to drink ready 24/7 in their cages. This
is very cruel to these animals.
In Bandung zoo, Scorpion
investigator found an elephant chained on two legs causing the elephant unable
to move freely. This is a kind of torture to this creature.
Local online media (www.initasik.com) recently
filed a report based on interview with an animal keeper of Plaza Asia Mini Zoo
saying that feeding of animals in the mini zoo rely on fruits and vegetables that
are unsold in markets. As a result, many animals here have died.
Initially there are about 80 species of animals, but now all that remains less
than half.
www.initasik.com also
reported unconfirmed information that Taman Mini Plaza Asia is illegal.
