Posted on 15:17 September 21st, 2019

The forestry police from Conservation Section of Region 4 of the North Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) together with staff of Scorpion Foundation and a local helper conducted joint patrols in Adian Koting Subdistrict of North Tapanuli Regency on Monday (2019.09.16). This patrol aims to observe various disturbances to the most critically endangered Tapanuli orangutans and their habitat in the area.

The patrol was carried out along the edge of protected forest area within the Adian Koting sub-district which is part of the Tapanuli orangutan habitat. In this patrol the team found a trail making from a residential area crossing protected forest.

In addition, the team also found a small rubber plantation in the protected forest area. Maybe the community does not know that the area is a protected forest. Follow up activities are still needed in the form of socialization to the community pertaining to regulation on protected forest.
