Indonesian President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo on Thursday (14/4) launched
“The National Movement to Save Wildlife” in Karya Island, Pulau Panggang
Sub-district, Kepulauan Seribu Utara District, Thousand Islands Regency, North
Jakarta. After the launching, Scorpion Foundation monitored the wildlife market
in Jatinegara on Tuesday (19th of April 2016). There were less wildlife on sale
compared to the condition before the launching of the national movement.
When visiting Jatinegara this week and asking the traders if they have
transportation permits (SATS-DN) of the wildlife they received in this market,
no one had the permits.
It is encouraged that the Ministry of Environment and Forestry control
the transportation of the wildlife from the forest to the markets so that the ministry
can also have the information of the wildlife
traffic and also can collect payment of the transportation permit. In North
Sumatra, people who want to bring/send wildlife to other province now regularly
ask for transportation permit (SATS-DN) and get payment of IDR 35,000 per
permit document. It is a non-tax revenue for government if all traders apply
for SATS-DN.
