Illegal Poachers Continue to Vacuum Wildlife from Sumatra Forests to Supply Medan markets (June 17, 2017)
Posted on 17:35 June 17th, 2017

Illegal poachers continue to vacuum the wildlife from the forests in Sumatra to supply demand of the wildlife markets in Medan. In a visit to two major wildlife markets in Medan, Pasar Bintang and Merak Jingga this week, Scorpion team found thousands of birds, reptiles, and various mammals on sale. According to shop keeper in Pasar Bintang, the animals came from provinces of Riau and Aceh.

The animals were brought to Medan without permit from relevant Wildlife Authority (BKSDA) offices. The Scorpion team also found some cruelties to the animals in Pasar Bintang: some cages of mammals were not supplied with food and drinking water for the animals. There should be water 24/7 for the animals to drink.
