Approximately
500 illegal birds were on sale again in Muntilan wildlife market in Magelang, Central
Java. Scorpion Investigator visited this market on Saturday (4 June 2016) and
found various birds on sale including Grey-throated White-eye, White-vented
Myna, Emelad Dove, Asian Glossy Starling, Barred cuckoo-dove
During the visit to this market,
Scorpion Investigator also asked some shop owners if the birds in their shops covered
with transportation permit (Surat Angkut Tumbuhan dan Satwa Dalam Negeri
(SATS-DN). No birds were covered with transport permits, therefore, these birds
were illegal.
Forestry Minister Regulation No. 447/Kpts-II/2003 concerning administration directive of harvest or capture and distribution of the specimens of wild plant and animal species (Article 61) says: “All and any activities of domestic commercial distribution shall be covered by Permit for Domestic Transport of Wild Plants and Animals (SATS-DN).”
It is hoped that the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in Central Java enforce this minister regulation to prevent illegal distribution of the wild birds.
